Upon its inception, Schola Cantorum on Hudson instituted the
Choral Scholar Program to give a special head start, by way
of expanded experience and training, to a selected high school
singer who is strongly considering music as a vocation. High
school sophomores and juniors recommended by their high school,
church, or private music teacher are invited to apply for
audition in April of each year. (A student could potentially
hold a choral scholarship for his or her last two years in
high school.)
Schola sponsors one or two successful candidates each year with a singing
membership, free music (theirs to keep), training in sight
reading, and partial scholarship for private voice lessons.
Scholars will be provided with appropriate letters of recommendation,
etc., to facilitate scholarship acquisition from and acceptance
into a fine conservatory or university music program.
A Choral Scholar audition is highly selective and is based
on a combination of audition (including a prepared song, sight reading, and ear testing) and interview with the Artistic
Director, musical experience, and recommendations. Basic application
information and forms are available by clicking here. Please contact the
Education Coordinator.
