Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep
The AHS Bel Canto Chorale Men were invited to perform a concert as a featured chorus for the TMEA Convention in 2008. They commissioned me to write this piece to not only showcase their talent but also to pay respects to a local family who lost their son in the military.
My thoughts are about how meaningful this song was to the choir. Two young men had either a sick mom or one recently passed away. The family of Sgt. Andrew Perkins (for whom the commissioned piece was dedicated) were very moved and grateful for the tribute. Performing this song will forever be something for them to remember.
Other Thoughts from the Composer:
There is also an SATB version and a Tenor Solo with Piano version of this piece available on my website.
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints of snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft starlight of night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
