Overview and Process for Application
Who may apply?
Composers with work accepted by PROJECT : ENCORE™ as of December 2011. (Click here for Project Encore Submissions.) Composers submitting to Project Encore by the October 15, 2011 quarterly deadline may qualify.
Submission specifications:
| Length: | Approximately two to three minutes |
| Scoring: | SATB voices; minimal divisi, if any Suggested (but not required) keyboard (organ/piano) element Any obbligato needs will need to be supplied by the composer |
| Language: | English (macaronic possible, if intrinsic to intent) |
| Style: | Think accessible, relatively easy read for massed group of singers (See 2011 winning composition in the Project Encore database: Wayne Eastwood's 'love is more thicker than regret.' |
| Status: | Although Project Encore submissions must be already premiered work, the composition submitted for the Sing New York! competition must not have had a premiere performance or recording prior to submission, or prior to a projected 11 June 2012 premiere performance. |
PROCESS FOR APPLICATION for Sing New York! Choral Premiere Competition:
- Wednesday, 28 December: Postmark deadline for submission.* Composers should send their entry to:

- Instructions: Send three copies containing no identifying verbiage or indicie, and one copy with composer identification. If the work is published, that must not be in evidence on the three unmarked copies. Submissions will be reviewed by the members of the Sing New York! Repertoire Committee, in a completely blind process.
- Wednesday, 1 February 2012: The winning composer will be notified, after which public announcement will be made.
- Wednesday, 15 February 2012: The winning composer must provide sound file and final score for posting on the Sing New York! web site, along with any notes about the composition he or she wishes to provide.
*Disclaimer: The offering of this opportunity implies no guarantee of performance of a composition written in response to it. The winning score will be made available to Sing New York! participants via online download. The winning composer will need to grant signed permission for this to take place.
