THRESHOLDS
May 19 and 20, 2012
Through our annual Ethnic Series, SCH looks at the music of individual cultures and nationalities. Within this season’s theme of Healing, we examine transitions into and out of life on this earth through music and poetry recently acquired by Bellagio Resident Fellow Composer Andrea Clearfield during her two treks deep in the Himalayas (research funded by the Rubin Foundation). Fundamental to the culture of this region is the reality of a ‘healing spirit.’ Ms. Clearfield’s multi-movement work entitled Tse Go La, which translates to mean ‘At the Threshold of this Life,’ is based on material she discovered—poetry and music previously unheard by western ears. Tse Go La also incorporates new texts by anthropologist Sienna Craig, a noted researcher of Tibetan society, culture and history. It is SCH’s privilege to premiere the chamber version of this major composition.
Also included in these concerts are Featured Composer Ivo Antognini’s ‘Life is a Circle,’ and Blake R. Henson’s ‘My Flight for Heaven.’
